/100722. I’m back with little bits on China. Strange how news tolls on and things like Tiananmen Square get crushed again. Another bloody affair that the CCP wants the world to forget. No more vigils of remembrance. The power of autocracy, just like Russia. Control the media and you can control everything else. Was just reading about the number of spies that the CCP recruits. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000z2yt Germany blocks most the the BBC Reel that the link shows so I am not quite sure what one shows. Sorry about that.
300920. Let me say right now, that I am going to change to format of my blog as of today, with the latest writings or ramblings being at the top of the page with older stuff at the bottom. It took a while to realise this but it will definitely improve your reading 🙂
010720. I have just been watching Carrie Lamm speaking about the need to curb political unrest. Wow. We in the west, don’t rally appreciate the value of free speech. We have always had it since the UN Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. The ability to say whatever we want about whatever we want, like me now :-). In Hong Kong you can’t do this any more, you can’t seem to even protest either!. You will get arrested – law passed at midnight last night and already one person has been arrested. Doesn’t bode well for the Hong Kongers.
Censorship in what you can read, see on the Internet. How much personal freedom will they lose under Zheng Yanxiong? Does the Chinese Communist Party really fear things so much that they have to control the people? This is a problem with autocrats and autocratic states.
It brings up so many things like: you traded with China for cheaper products (and possibly more profit for your shareholders) so “what goes around comes around”. Are there other reasons for doing this?
I was very impressed with how quickly they build the emergency hospital in Wuhan. Was it just 7 days? WoW. Incredible. Maybe they should have had a competition with the American army :-). Who do you think would have won?
A couple of days ago I saw a picture of children in Wuhan ready to go back to school – all in the same clothes. Definitely not for me. I prefer to make my own choices
Now it seems like the Chinese, having continued to take the law into their own hands after Hong Kong and now it is the withdrawl of the UK and Huawei 5G network. The Chinese ambassador says it isn’t a good thing in a veiled authoritarian tone. How much of the British decision came from the Johnson/Trump meeting and whatever they have arranged between themselves related to a possible trade deal. It is an inter-connected world, isn’t it? I must say that Dominic Raab, our Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs – a grand title for the Foreign Secretary – seems to be doing a great job in holding the Chinese and Russians to account for their presumed misdoings. Today the report that should have been published but was put on hold because of the General Election earlier this year comes out. Some people have said it will be watered down. Why don’t people say what they mean and not leave it to other people’s interpretation of what they are saying. Today’s news – UK “Actively avoided” investigating Russian threat. Hopeless isn’t it? I don’t know the answer to this but both Russia and China have been accused to wrong doing since God know when. Their reply…. “No, we didn’t do it or don’t know anything about it.” How many times have both been accused since the year dot. Maybe neither has a words for “Yes, you are right and we are sorry” in their languages. I am not saying the England is completely without blame in these situations either. So many things began so long ago and the past hasn’t been forgiven. So, we have the situation today.
Now the tit-for-tat with the Americans for closing the embassies. I think that the Chinese have always seemed to have had the reputation for general wrong-doing. This doesn’t excuse the Americans either. Which country can be “whiter than thou?” Spying is a talent that no-one openly admits to doing! America, the UK, China, France, Germany and so on for the long list. Maybe enough said on this subject for the moment. More will follow, doubtless.
I saw today that Huawei sold the most smartphones in the world, overtaking Samsung. Wow, that’s lots of smartphones.
310720. I read yesterday that the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) has banned oppositions members from the election because “The government said the candidates were not fit to run for office.”
so that is how the CCP got into power? It has to be better than putting them in jail or just killing them. This must be one of the plus sides to a free world – well, more or less. Makes me feel happy that I am living in a relatively free Democracy.
And what about Putin and the way that he treats the opposition party 🙁 Is this what a 20th century autocrat looks like? The list goes on.
070820. Watched a film clip on the box and there was a young Uighar, named Merdan Ghappar, he used to be a model and sent a member of his family a clip of him handcuffed to his bed. I understand it went viral. Can’t find how many views it got, BUT, the guy hasn’t been seen or heard of since March 2020. So what have the Chinese authorities done with him? Put him in a more secure prison that the place he was in? Stolen is phone? Shot him trying to escape???
I’ll say the same thing again, Europe needs to retool factories to bring the work home and to stop outsourcing it to other countries just to make more money. What do you think? Am I right or do you have an other opinion? So it would cost a bit more but the savings on the environment would justify this, I think. Also more work for local unemployed.
280920. I see that the Chinese are “sterilising” the Uighar women now. Could you call this fake news?
