300920. Let me say right now, that I am going to change to format of my blog as of today, with the latest writings or ramblings being at the top of the page with older stuff at the bottom. It took a while to realise this but it will definitely improve your reading 🙂
I live in the south of Germany between Stuttgart and Munich in a city called Ulm. It is fairly similar to where I lived in the UK, a city called Bath. Ulm has about 125,000 people and Bath about 90,000. Ulm has a Munster from 1377 and the tallest spire in the world – until The BasĂlica de la Sagrada FamĂlia is completed. Bath has an abbey since 675. Bath also has the world famous Roman Baths and Ulm has a beautiful (rebuilt after the war) Fisherman’s Quarter. Ulm is a fairly quiet city with a University and the river Danube running through it. Bath also has a University and the river Avon running through it. The same Avon as Stratford-on-Avon, famous for Shakespeare. On a cold winters day you could waltz to the Blue Danube. (Possibly joking). There are lots of good restaurants and bars which are well frequented. The surrounding areas of both Ulm and Bath are green with good motorway access.Â
The Ulmer Munster (Cathedral) was started in 1377. It is linked to folk stories of the Ulmer Spatz (sparrows). The local builders were puzzled about how to get a long beam into the city through the city gates and then a sparrow flew in with a small piece of wood, held diagonally in it’s beak, et voila, the problem was solved.Â
Another claim to fame is that Albert Einstein was born here.Â
